Biography
Cahill was born in Great Yarmouth England and grew up all over the UK in towns such as Northampton, Torquay, Blackpool and Leeds. from his late teens warren was fortunate enough to escape the colourful uk for that magical musical & artistic island of Ibiza, he's now spent well over a decades worth of seasons working & letting loose on the on his favoured Spanish "white Isle" , he's also spent over 16 months on the ancient lands of india where he's already performed over 35 gigs this year in locations such as Goa, Pune & Mumbai.
Warren Cahill received a guitar on his 18th Birthday and immediately fell in love with it. However his first foray into music came in 1991 when he became a key member of the Delapre Middle School classical band, playing the keyboard and trombone. They came last in the 1992 Northamptonshire Schools Classical Music Competition.
Unfazed by the acquisition of a brand new wooden spoon, in the same year he performed his first ever live solo act, playing the Christmas classic ‘Silent Night’ on the Keyboard to the whole school for the Christmas assembly (he was using the little 8-beat-fingered chord change). Needless to say he smashed it and since then has never looked back.
Cahill has often said he would never have learned the guitar if it wasn't for the song ‘Wonderwall’ by his favourite band Oasis. He then became addicted to Noel Gallagher B-sides such as ‘Take Me Away’, ‘Masterplan’, ‘Sadsong’ and many more. Other earlier influences included Cast, The Verve, Stereophonics and Blur.
In 2005, Cahill was a member of Manchester band The Quiero Somethings (he forgets the name) with front man Craig ‘Booted’ Gillon, Danny Germaine, Matty Anderson, Sammy the drummer and the front man of new London band GLuE, Tom Giddins.
In pursuing his own muscal enlightenment Cahill has developed a unique style of guitar playing. He’s the first person to use his elbow as a kick drum whilst strumming the chords as normal and it is also believed he is one of the first people to switch playing guitar from the standard-position to playing it on his lap in the same song.
In 2008, Cahill discovered Andy McKee on YouTube and was blown away by his style, especially the song ‘Drifting’. This then led him to discover Erik Mongrain, Jon Gomm and John Butler, who have also became huge influences.
The magical white island of Ibiza, Spain has also played a massive part in Cahill´s musical journey. He first touched down on its sands in 1998 and has returned nearly every season since, spending over six years living there in total. It was here where he fell in love with the music, art, people, dimension searching and pure beauty of the island, he also happened to meet his biggest inspiration and musical brother Elliot Hollins. The duo quickly bonded and formed Rat on the Roof a collection of underground artists and musicians.
The pair are both currently working on various different music projects, all of which are being kept secret (watch this space).
Keen to show the world what he has to offer Cahill started busking in the streets of London. His first attempt on Brick Lane was where his first YouTube video was captured and uploaded. It has now received more than 80,000 hits. This followed time spent in India where Cahill spent over 10 months honing his guitar style and seeking further inspiration.
In Mumbai he worked as a volunteer giving lessons at the guitar music school ‘Tune In’. He also spent a couple of seasons playing at various well known bars and venues around Goa including Shore Bar on Anjuna Beech and the Wednesday Flee Market. During this adventure he became a proud member of the family called the Anjuna Allstars, where he's been working with musicians such as Ping Pong & Coco, Mick Doherty, Elliot Hollins, Maria, and Joe Snow.

- May 13, 12Warren Cahill - Ultimate Three - Shadow of the Butterfly Pt4 by ratontheroofPlaying the guitar is my passion and im so grateful ive found it, I look at all music as a universal language which can portray thoughts & emotions without words being said, i love nothing more than to sit alone in my little world distant from everything & everyone and strum away carelessly, at times i can get so deep into my music and as cheesy as it sounds, I've managed to squeeze out these tear drops of Joy by hitting certain harmonics and melodies, and yeah giving yourself goosebumps is one special feeling, this is definitely my meditation, my way to keep intouch with the fairground inside, you need to get on it!!! i guess it has to be the connection to this so called inner source which is kicking about the cosmos, the divine light, the OM, or just "THE". What ever it is, i love it and I'm addicted to it, so i'm gonna "keep going" and see where it takes me.

Finding the right tattoo & artist is always gonna be hard decision for anyone, especially as we all know they 'live forever" on a one way road with no no returns, they can totally transform the look of a person and character which creates fear for most, i feel it can work a little like the human metamorphosis, if you get it right. I got my first tribal tattoo at the age of 17…i didn't get it right, i was loving characters tattoos from the 90's manga computer games such as Tekken 2 & Street fighter , i thought this style of tribal warrior looked rudeboy, and yeah i wanted one, then the day came and I remember it very well, it was the day England lost there English Rose Princess Diane, the UK came to tears that "Sunday Morning" it was all over the news, papers and pretty much everyone was talking about it, anyway that afternoon me and 3 of my best mates got together and started chatting breeze whilst drinking a few Jd's and got a little sentimental about the whole ordeal, so we all decided today was the day were gonna to get a tattoo, so off we bowled to the local tattooist on the Kettering Rd in Northampton, had a look at a few designs took about 30 mins to decide what i want and where i want it :) here's my £50, then there it was…….. boom my Power Ranger looking Sign!! me and my mates all went under the ink gun that day and all still have the scars and story to prove, we all felt like a pack of the dogs ballbag's by the end of that day.Yeah so you can imagine After this trying to choose a tattoo for me became hard as i wanted it be right, not just a quick lets do to be cool and be in fashion thing, it had to have meaning, depth & truth behind this ancient spiritual ritual.
My first experience traveling in India was just like the Yin-Yang, absolutely amazing but then on the other side it was the start of a painful roller coaster of emotions, fear & love, suddenly i felt like i had become one of the characters in one of my most inspiring films "The Beach" it was just a little unfortunate for me that at the time as i wasn't playing the part i had been seeking Leo Dicaprio, many things happened that year good and bad ;) Never the less in 2010 i returned to India to as it were " face the music" and after reaching that dreaded age of 30, or if you tilt your head to the right you could say reaching that divine time of OM, regardless i was seek and finding things like CHANGE, REALISATION & PURPOSE"
My idea was to find a tattoo artist that would could listen to my music and story and actually take me seriously, finally after playing to a couple of artist in the area i found Mau Hugeat and his beautiful family, they were living just off the Shore Beach in Anjuna Goa, instantly i noticed his artwork and paintings on his table, flowers of life, pictures of spritual symbols and incredible intricate drawings of Geometric Patterns mixed in with Buddha's and all kinds of ancient Gods, and also his life style and family were something of a dream, so i fell in love with the glorious package straight away, i knew he was the man for the job, and after i explained my story and what i wanted to do, well we were all very excited. So i arranged with him and the family to play a series of songs which I call "Shadow of the Butterfly" i played and they listen and took it so serious and personal which is exactly what i wanted, after i played we all then talked about signs, patterns and symbols, and in the end i then just gave into the ego and let Mau do what he thinks is best as for me, this was his art now, his magic
The whole process took around 4 - 5 weeks i will not deny the fact that i hated the pain but then this was soothed & amusement by the lkes of Miro & Issa, and the sound of Maria playing guitar & singing with her Angelic voice, click HERE! to see and hear a live performance by her & Elliot Hollins from "Rat on the Roof" in Ibiza 2011.
The plan for me was to get both arms fully tattooed hands & arms, just like a caterpillar i wanted to change this appearance, so i needed it to be right, i wanted sound and visuals to match what i was doing and sounding like and I think Mau got it better than i could ever of dreamed, his actual full design for me was going to run up my other arm and hand, but due to the fact of how accident prone i am, one managed to come off a motorbike and actually slam into a rather small church corner and destroy the left arm for completion, never the less things happen for reasons, and anyway its now to be continued, so all i can say is "Thank you Mau" and i mean this from the bottom of my heart, as for now i feel i can fly with these wings you have painted upon me, they have given me confidence to shine and climb and you and your family will be in my heart forever.I will let the Music & pictures tell rest of the story. - May 12, 12Thank you to Wendy for Photographing this whole experience, your a star for capturing these moments click HERE! to see the full collection of photos from start to finish, along with more of WendyWood spiritual tattoo Mau collection.
